Leaders worship at the Altar of Impact – But Starve for Meaning
When a leader grows into self-assuredness from the gut, fearless creativity from the unknown becomes heart-led, and something remarkable happens
Leaders of my generation say: “I have achieved. Now I am ready to contribute.”
The younger generation say: “I’m not after titles, pensions, perks. I want balance. I want impact - big impact. Now. We’ve got to fix this mess on planet Earth.”
It’s uplifting. Both are on point. Both yearn for fulfilment.
You might think: Bingo. If we double down on today’s challenges – across generations - we’ll save ourselves and finally become a happy species.
And yet...
Both groups seek organisations with strong values and higher purpose. They listen to inspirational podcasts, work for charitable causes, and follow thought leaders and gurus. And yet still report that the deep, unquenchable longing to feel fully utilised doesn't budge.
So, they keep searching. New jobs. More interviews. Expand networks. Constant motion. Exhaustion. It's hard to witness.
The thing is, existential hunger cannot be satiated through imitation, or by following someone else’s agenda and calling it purpose. Your search is an internal job.
It begins with crafting your own Purpose Statement, one that is uniquely yours. It requires asking fundamental questions:
What is my divine gift?
How do I uncover and cultivate it?
How do I live and lead from it?
The next step is maturation - moving beyond copy and paste growth. However noble imitation may appear, it is still juvenile if it bypasses your own evolution.
When a leader grows into self-assuredness from the gut, fearless creativity from the unknown becomes heart-led, and something remarkable happens: the business masterpiece unfolds naturally with the timeless elegance of being.
Since the pandemic, coaching conversations have deepened. Top leaders are daring themselves - and their systems - to shift into a new paradigm. I salute those brave souls. And I would be honoured to guide yours.
So, consider: what do you truly live by?
If you resonate with uncovering the inner calling that longs to be unleashed through your leadership, let’s journey together.
