Getting over myself. The theme of the month so far...

When you lead authentically – aligned in both heart and mind - the two-way energy of that difficult truth is leadership at its best

Twice in one day last week, leaders sat across from me, caught in the same silent struggle.

Each was circling the same questions:

  • Do I have that long overdue conversation, or protect comfort?

  • Do I feed back the truth and send that difficult email?

  • Shall I express what I know needs to be initiated, yet risk stepping on toes?

All they wanted to do was to move the business forward…

Yet that familiar inner chorus was chiming:

🙋‍♀️ They’ll think less of me.
🙋‍♀️ I couldn't possibly.
🙋‍♀️ What will they say?
🙋‍♀️ Will the business survive this ripple?
🙋‍♀️ It might hurt them too much.
🙋‍♀️ I can’t do it to them.

Not easy…

Often paralysing, isn’t it?

Maintaining momentum, getting over yourself, and going ahead anyway. I have SO been there - sitting on drafted up emails for weeks, approaching someone only to change the subject at the last second. In a family setting...for years. The frog in the throat. The tears. Pity for the person on the other side. All deeply conditioned responses.

So, I worked on my inner core, and then one day I pressed the ‘send’ button.

Silence. A breath. Then another. And another.

The e-mail sent. The conversation happened. I am alive. Same flesh, same room, same desk, same clothes, breathing the same air. Relief. Fear dissipating. Excitement and curiosity building as the waves within the infinite field of opportunities have been catalysed.

✅ When you lead authentically – aligned in both heart and mind - the two-way energy of that difficult truth is leadership at its best.

Top tier leaders experiment. They fail fast and fail forward. Only action, even the smallest step towards the new state proves a decision has truly been made.

Momentum matters. So, let’s stumble, mumble, fumble, tumble - and press on. Tiny daily progress compounds into transformative, large-scale outcomes.

What would you change if you pressed ‘send’ today? Let me know…
